Let me justify the 5 star rating this way: We order, and expect, the same things in every Italian restaurant: lasagna, homemade pastas, homemade sausages and soups. This place will not disappoint. Tonight's special house made sausage stuffed ravioli was amazing. The chicken florentine soup is a knock out. The lasagna tastes like an Italian grandma is back there rolling out the noodles. One would think these would be easy to find? Not so, making this place a gem. If you are ordering a steak, I'd expect you would be In a steakhouse for quality meats. If you're not, that's your fault. Order what they're known for or no complaints. The cannoli filling was very genuine. If you enjoy the cool whip/ Costco cannoli, this place is not for you. We live in Detroit. Great Italian is hard to find. Lucky you, port Huron.

My first time there Friday night, visiting my family for the long holiday weekend. We ordered the giant salad and large pizza with sausage, mushroom & green peppers. Everything was pretty tasty. However, as a Chicago girl, this pizza was just lacking a little flavor. It needed more sauce. More cheese. More... Not sure. I will say though the ingredients were fresh and delicious and as a pizza lover, hit the spot. As my parents are new to Michigan, they do claim Pompeii's as one of their favorite pizza places. I would eventually like to come back and try those steak tortellinis or a calzone. And lastly, we had great service. Always nice when the chef and bartender/owner stops by and tells us that grandpa is full of piss & vinegar (which he is).

Had a fantastic meal with the family here tonight. Bacon fat bread as an appetizer and chicken artichoke Toscana (I think that's what it was called) as entree. This place is top notch, beats Olive Garden any day. My only complaint would be it's a little pricy, but good food and service is worth a few extra bucks!

I've been here twice, but the first time was in the midst of the annual St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl, so I don't remember very well. Therefore, my review will be based on my second and most recent visit. We went with a group of 6 plus 2 babies, late dinner time on a Friday night. The place was pretty empty. We were seated right away and received prompt attention. Four of us got pizza and two got pasta dishes. The endless salad was great- reminded me a lot of the Olive Garden salad, which I consider to be a compliment. My husband and I shared the Pompeii Pie, which consisted of just about every yummy topping you could think of. It was a great combination of good, fresh ingredients and a TON of cheese! We finished about half of a medium and were so excited to have yummy leftovers for the next day. It's a little pricey for pizza (I believe our medium was $16.75) but definitely worth the price. I'm not a pizza snob, but sometimes it's nice to pay a little extra for something besides delivery. I would definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a cozy little place with top notch, unpretentious food.

Pompeii's (pronounced Pom-PAY) is another in a long line of delicious locally owned restaurants in downtown Port Huron. I gotta be honest with you Port Huroners, I have no idea why you would ingest a single bite to eat on the North side of town near the mall when you have gems like these nearby. It's frustrating that a downtown like this is suffering because people would rather take their bland palates down by the mall to choke down Chili's and Olive Garden. Blech. Anyway, this restaurant is a home run in nearly every category. Atmosphere is nice and low, service is prompt and likable, and management is on premises and taking an active hand in providing you the best meal possible. The pasta dishes and specials are quite delicious but the pizza is where my heart is. The only thing holding Pompeii's from a full five star recommendation is their limited beer selection. They have Blue Moon and Killian's on draft and the standards (Bud/Miller/Michelob) in bottle form. I'd really like to see more options on that front. Still, there's no comparison to make between these guys and Olive freakin' Garden. Pompeii's. Hands down.

My favorite restaurant in port Huron! Spaghetti is my favorite dish, but it is rare that any place does it right. This place does! I look forward to it every time! But anything here is worth it! Good wine list and atmosphere. The waitresses are often slow which is the lone drawback. But the food is so worth it! Forget olive garden. This is the place to be!

Went across the border to do some shopping and asked a couple of people where there was a good "off the beaton path" place to eat. Pompeii's was highly recommended to us so off we went. Parking could be an issue if the restaurant was busy, the restaurant is decorated very nicely, and the staff was very friendly and informative. However that is where the pleasant experience ended. Italian food is our favourite and we have been in some very poor and some very very good authentic Italian restaurants. This one is the middle of the road, nothing spectactular, and nothing that would send you back. Their salad was top of the line, but their main dishes lacked the punch that we were looking for. Garlic and Italian food are a perfect match, however garlic was not very noticable is any of the dishes we had. The lasagna was very "raw tomato" in flavour, and the pizza was average. If you are in the area and are desiring a taste of Italy and the Olive Garden is far too salty for your liking, try Pompeii's, it is better than some, but not as good as others.

So I was at this restaurant for a casual lunch on a Thursday with a friend. We were enjoying a meal together and catching up when all of a sudden this large lady in a bight pink shirt started screaming at this girl, who looked very shocked by this and was being nothing but nice to this very mean woman. It totally ruined our dining experience. I am not sure why this woman would be yelling at someone...I am assuming she was the owner. It was VERY unprofessional and rude. I will never dine at this establishment again and I will make sure to let others know about this incident. There is no reason for any person to act like that or treat another person like that...let alone an owner of the restaurant. The food was only ok...however it was ruined by the big screaming lady! Very Unprofessional!!!!!

I've been to Pompeii twice and both time the meal and service were good. I have a thin crust pizza and a chicken special of the day. Both were quite tasty. I think the add on price for salad and/or bread is a bit high for something not particularly special. The cocktails are bit light on flavor and alcohol. Nothing here is bad, but it's also not amazing. I would chose Pompeii over Olive Garden, but mostly because I prefer local to chain restaurants

When they initially opened, I was most familiar with their pizza (I'm talking once a week familiar). Since then my attendance has kinda dropped off, (no fault of theirs). On the relatively rare occassions that I do show up now, I opt for the dinners, which are quite good. Really one of the better places to eat in Port Huron. The salad presentation and bread and dipping oil also are nice touches. The drinking water is quite good, a rare thing among restaurants, it doesn't taste like old ice or somehow contaminated like many restaurants. So its ok to get hydrated here if you need it and lets face it, who doesn't these days. The Mushrooms are huge portabellos, the sauces are nice. I have had the Carbonara, the Fettucine Alfredo and the Steak Tortellini. I lean toward the white sauces. But the Manicotti is good, with a slightly sweet red sauce. The price is a little higher than I like, but I don't worry about the quality.

Stopped in for a quick lunch as we only had about 45 minutes before a meeting. The food was fantastic and they got us out the door in time. Being from Grand Rapids I don't get to PH very often but would really like to come back and try their dinner entrees.

Best traditional Italian-American in the area. Textbook lasagna, et al, prepared impeccibly. The chef can be quite adventurous with his specials - hopefully they sell well enough to encourage him further

Ive eaten here multiple time and yet to have a bad experience. Their ribs are amazing, pizza is great but their Chicken Parm is outstanding. Great service but parking sucks because of the location.

A group of 6 of us ate at Pompeii last night while in Port Huron on business, at the recommendation by our client, and it was WELL worth the trip. Four of the group were already seated when the other 2 of us arrived, and our first impression was "hmmmm.... this doesn't look like much". And it didn't, really, on the inside. Very plain and 'to the point'. That said, some of these places in small towns turn out to have great food, and this was one of those places. (yeah!) The appetizers were very, very good, and they had bruschetta with shrimp (YUM), as well as these pizza/cheese sticks. I had veal Parmesan, and the rest of the group had chicken Cordon Bleu, mushroom linguine, Portabella mushroom pasta, spaghetti and lasagna. All were reportedly excellent. The only star off is due to the fact that the waiter apparently took a 'salad/smoke' break between the time the 4 were seated and the 2 of us arrived, so there was a gap of about 10 minutes during which we had no service (and we were HUNGRY). He apologized when returning, and then did his best to make up for it - seemed like a nice guy. That said, that's kind of a no-no in my book, so 1 star off. The food was 5 star. I'll definitely return!

Six of us had dinner at 5pm on a Tuesday. Our server said Splenda was available for the unsweet tea, but after serving unsweet tea, she learned there was no Splenda. The restaurant did not offer sweet tea, so a drink order had to be changed after the fact. Besides this minor inconvenience, the food was DELICIOUS! Two people shared a LARGE pizza with hand tossed crust which they loved & took 3/4 of it home. Someone had lasagna, 2 had spaghetti with meat sauce, and I had the chicken parmesan. All entrees were absolutely scrumptious. Only 2 desserts were ordered. One was tiramisu which is typically made with mascarpone cheese. This version seemed to be made with cream cheese instead of mascarpone which the person who ordered the dessert doesn't eat cream cheese & therefore did not care for the tiramisu. The rest of us split it & enjoyed it. I ordered the spumoni ice cream. The menu said 2 scoops. I was brought a HUGE sundae dish with 6 or more small scoops of spumoni. I dished out 4 scoops to others with me, and I still had almost too much spumoni. It was the second best spumoni I have ever had. We would all return here many times, and hope they offer Splenda on our return.

Atmosphere: Nice, intimate restaurant with some "Italian-inspired" prints on the wall. Nothing that stands out but nothing to complain about. Service was both friendly and timely. Appetizer : Garlic escargot had a unique presentation, sitting in a bed of garlic bread and without the traditional fattening layer of melted cheese on top. However, it had far too much olive oil for my liking. The meal also came with a bread and dip (good bread, simple and somewhat bland dip) and a side salad. Main meal: We ordered the cannelloni and the ravioli. Nothing really stood out. As my wife stated, "There's no flavor popping in my mouth." The cream sauce was slightly underseasoned. Overall, we liked our meal but neither one of us loved our meal, nor would we reorder the same meal on a return trip. Unfortunately, both our dishes featured the cream sauce, perhaps we would have been more impressed with a different sauce. $ : The advantage of eating south of the border is the value. This time we ended up paying 60$ for app, meal and wine, which is relatively the same as we would in Canada.

Great food! We love coming to Pompeii's in Port Huron. The food is excellent. Our son likes watching the pizza dough being thrown into the air! If the service was as good as the food it would be a 5! Servers are nice but not very attentive. We bought a bottle of wine. The young lady dropped it off and 4 glasses at the table and ran off. Did not open the bottle! Oh well! We had a good laugh. But, the food keeps me coming back not the service.

Honestly the worst meal of my life. After hearing so much about this place around town my friend and I decided to give it a try. After some dismal appetizers I was hoping for a decent meal. Mind you it's a Friday night and we beat the rush so you would expect their best. We both ordered from the list of specials. I ordered a linguine with ricotta and steak. You could get a far superior cut of meat across the street at powers diner with steak and eggs. And there was so much ricotta it was overwhelming. Neither me nor my friend could eat our meal. Thinking this was a fluke my parents gave it a try. Same thing for them too. I worry about the palate of anyone who says this place serves "food".

I went to this place for the Gluten Free menu. It was even better than I imagined from the reviews. They were out of pasta but the pizza is homemade and delicious. They have a variety of GF sauces to choose from as well. Others with us had the regular pizza and said the GF crust was better. I wanted to order a second GF cheese bread because it was so good. My 5 stars is for the GF foods, so bear that in mind. The blue margarita was very strong (just as it should be). The portions are large as most things in Michigan. There was one GF beer on the menu but the mixed drink and wine selection was more than enough to satisfy me. The style is quaint with a large area in the back of the restaurant that has a modest view of the lake. In the front you can see the pizza crust being tossed.

This was a pleasant surprise after a string of other disappointing restaurants we first experienced in Port Huron. With the only complaint of an overdressed salad, the pizza was crisp and flavorful, though pepperoni was doing the heavy lifting. The lasagna, while simple, was very satisfying. An apple cobbler finished the meal and was fabulous. From a decor perspective, it was a bit too basic for the price of most entrées and the menus a bit dog-eared. We will return.

Pricey but delicious. Even their lunch portions leave me with leftovers. My husband and I have been a couple of times. I had a chicken and artichoke dish with a creamy pesto sauce and gnocchi one time that was amazing. The mushroom ravioli was great too. I look forward to trying dessert some time.

Great everything! Loved the food, service, atmosphere. This is the place extensive menu. Calzone is huge so unless you eat like a 14year old football player in training ....you might want to split it with someone or plan on taking in your lunch tomorrow. All portions were large - even dessert. Yes you need to try the cannoli - even if your pants are tight after your delicious meal. It will be worth it!

Mom and I decided to stop here for dinner before crossing the Port Huron bridge to do a little gambling at the casino in Sarnia, Canada. My Chianti Sopranos was delivered in a nice wine glass, with a generous portion and it tasted smooth and good. Mom's Toasted Almond was also smooth, tasty and served well. The service was friendly and timely. Our Pizza and Spaghetti was very tasty and prepared with very fresh ingredients. The only disappointment was the one cannoli served at $3.95. Expensive and neither mom or I could take but one bite of it...yuck! Mom and I have a sweet tooth and we love our dessert, especially after a nice Italian meal but this over-priced single cannoli was filled with non-sweeten ricotta cheese...I think. Either way the filling lacked taste and a smooth texture. Parking is very sparse, you will more than likely have to park down a somewhat steep hill or across the street. Excellent Pizza! Very tasty that was prepared with fresh ingredients. The cheese wasn't too greasy or salty, nor was the ham and pepperoni. Right amount of sauce and cooked perfectly. This was a small pizza with a lot of pizza for the price. You won't go away feeling bloated, broke or like you'll gain weight.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
